What does “hybrid training” even mean?

Chances are you’ve seen the word hybrid training floating in your feed or overheard someone talking about Hyrox. And sure, it sounds culty, in reality, it’s simply another form of fitness. Now, it’s officially part of the Kic line-up. We sat down with our resident Hybrid Trainer, Mills, to break down what it is, how it works, and what to expect.

Let’s talk to the hybrid elephant in the room: what exactly is Hybrid training?

Hybrid Training is type of training approach that combies multiple modalities or exercise type, like running and lifting, or resistance and cardio. While can take many forms and encompass more multiple types of movement, at it’s core, hybrid is all about being adaptable and versatile with how you move.

For someone new to hybrid, where’s the best place to start?

Take the pressure off and explore! You don’t need to fit into a specific label, just try new things, move in different ways, and find what makes you feel good. Grab a friend, join a class, or mix a run with some strength work. There’s no one-size-fits-all.

Why is hybrid such a sustainable way to train?

Because it evolves with you. Your energy levels, goals, and lifestyle change, and hybrid training can change with them. Even if you’re just walking more and lifting a couple of times a week, you’re already living a hybrid lifestyle. It’s flexible and built to last.

What’s the difference between Hybrid, Hyrox, Turf Games, and CrossFit?

Hybrid is a training style, blending strength and endurance so you’re fit, strong, and capable. Hyrox and Turf Games are competitions that test those skills, and CrossFit is its own structured methodology. You can absolutely train hybrid without competing; it’s about fitness, confidence, and enjoyment.

Do you have to compete in Hyrox to train hybrid?

Not at all. Hybrid is for anyone who loves to move in different ways. Competitions are just one way to test yourself but the real magic is in building strength, confidence, and versatility day to day.
