Laura’s self-love learnings

As Valentine’s Day approaches, we can often feel so pressured to show our love for others in big and beautiful ways. Sometimes in the act of showing our love for others, we forget about all the wonderful ways we can show love to ourselves too.

Empowering others to believe in themselves is something that comes so naturally to me, but when it comes to believing in my own self worth, it’s something that doesn’t come organically. I have been on a really big journey over the past few years with just this, and as someone who is still (and will probably always will be) walking the path, I wanted to share some of my learnings with you so you can show yourself a bit of self-love this Valentine’s Day.

Practice self compassion

This Valentine’s Day, I’m taking a moment to practice some self-compassion and thank my mind for all the amazing things it can do. This isn’t always easy, but it’s so important. You need to be kind to yourself. The simplest way I like to do this is by asking myself, ‘what would I say or expect from a loved one if they were in my shoes?’ You’ll be surprised at how much more understanding and kind your advice is.

Feel comfortable saying ‘no’

I consider this to be a form of self-compassion, as saying ‘no’ can release you from unnecessary stress, help you set boundaries, and allow you to be in better control of what’s on your plate. Saying ‘no’ is never easy, but I’ve learnt that if I can avoid adding unnecessary things to my day, or to my week, I’m better equipped to make to focus what’s important.

Do something for you!

So often, we can forget to spend time doing something that’s actually for ourselves! So take this as your sign to put aside time in your day to do something you really love. For me, I love running as it grounds me and reminds me of how grateful I am to be able to move my body and find my moments of joy. For you, this could look like running yourself a bubble bath, spending 15 minutes nestled in with a cuppa and a good book or finishing your day with a meditation. Whatever it is, find something that is just for you today.

Learning to love yourself is the most important relationship you can maintain, it’s a journey for sure! I want to remind you that you deserve all of the self-love this Valentine’s Day. This Valentines Day, I’m taking a moment to practice some self-compassion and thank my mind for all the amazing things it can do.

I invite you to do the same.

Love, Laura xox
