How to boost your physical and mental health in 5 minutes

Our health is our life’s epicentre. Without our health, we cannot take on the challenges or the demands of our busy lives nor engage in the way we want to with the things that make us happy.

It is therefore paramount that we seek to do everything we can to support our health – both physical and mental.

If you’re subscribed to KIC, well, you’re already off to a roaring start to look after your health. But if you haven’t joined us yet, it’s never too late.

When it comes to how KIC views health, we’re here to help make movement, mindfulness and meals feel good for you and work into your life. Whether you’ve got 5 minutes or an hour, KIC’s got the tools to help you keep your health a top priority.

Today we want to shine a light on the power of 5 minutes and how 5 minutes is all you need to boost your health.

If you don’t believe in the power of 5 minutes, here’s what the experts have to say:

Psychologist Bec explained that when we exercise even if it’s just for 5 minutes, chemicals are released in the body, including endorphins (which trigger positive feelings) and serotonin (known as a mood stabiliser) that improve your overall mood.

Bec also explained that those who exercise regularly (and that can be for only 5 minutes a day) have been shown to have a reduction in their stress and symptoms of mental health such as anxiety and depression. A huge win when we think about how stressful our modern lives are.

5 minutes of daily exercise is also going to help us:

    • improve and sustain good sleep patterns;
    • help maintain healthy brain functioning; and
    • increase the size of the hippocampus (which is the part of the brain responsible for memory).

Need we convince you more to get moving for 5 minutes?!

If you’re still on the fence, then keep reading because KIC’s meditation coach Meg is stepping in to shine the light on the power of 5 minutes of meditation.

Meg explained that when we complete a 5 minute meditation we engage the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps us to move out of a heightened, stressed, reactive state into a calmer, reflective, more regulated state (i.e. it’s an incredible tool to combat anxiety and stress). Alongside that she also noted that taking on regular 5 minute meditations will help to strengthen our ‘mental muscle’ and improve our focus, memory and cognitive flexibility plus improve our immune system functions and quality of sleep.

Don’t be fooled it’s not the length of the meditation that matter, it’s the frequency. We think it’s a damn sweet deal getting to reap the benefits of meditation in only 5 minutes!

Understanding how busy life gets and the impact that 5 minutes of movement or meditation can have on our health is why KIC houses a range of 5 minute workouts and 5 minute meditations.

Your health is priceless and we’re here to help make it easier to look after. All you need 5 minutes.
