Yesterday was World Mental Health Day, a reminder of the importance of mental health and well-being in our lives.
In the hustle and bustle of our daily routines, it’s easy to neglect our mental health. However, just like physical health, mental health requires attention and care. In this blog post, we explore some valuable tips to help you look after your mental health and lead a happier, more fulfilling life.
1. Prioritise Self-Care
Self-care isn’t selfish; it’s essential. Make time for activities that bring you joy and relaxation. It could be reading a book, taking a long bath, practicing yoga, or indulging in a creative hobby. Allocating time for self-care activities can significantly reduce stress and boost your overall mood.
2. Stay Connected
Maintaining healthy relationships is vital for mental well-being. Spend quality time with family and friends. If you feel comfortable, open up to them about your feelings and concerns. Social connections can act as an incredible support system during difficult times, providing comfort and understanding.
3. Move your body
We’re all about moving our bodies for the way it makes us feel, it has a profound impact on mental health. Exercise releases endorphins, which are natural stress relievers. Whether you have 5 minutes or 30, craving something slow like yoga or a sweaty HIIT workout, it’s all about finding a movement that makes you feel good.
4. Practice Mindfulness and Meditation
Mindfulness and meditation techniques can help calm a racing mind and reduce anxiety. Dedicate a few minutes of your day to focus on your breathing and allow yourself to be present in the moment. This practice can enhance your self-awareness and promote mental clarity.
5. Catch enough Zzz's
Quality sleep is essential for mental and physical health. Lack of sleep can contribute to stress, irritability, and impaired cognitive function. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night (Kic Mumma’s we know this is an absolute luxury!) Establish a bedtime routine and create a comfortable sleep environment to ensure you get the rest your body and mind need.
6. Limit Screen Time
In today’s digital age, it’s easy to become engulfed in screens. Excessive screen time, especially on social media, can negatively impact mental health. Set boundaries for your screen time and engage in activities that don’t involve screens, such as reading or spending time outdoors.
7. Don't be afraid to seek professional help
It takes strength to acknowledge when you need help. If you find yourself struggling with your mental health, don’t hesitate to seek support from a mental health professional. Psychologists are trained to provide the necessary guidance and support to help you navigate challenging times.
In this episode Steph & Laura speak with Kath about cherishing & nurturing the most important relationship in our lives, the one we have with ourselves.
My core motivation for moving my body is for the incredible impact it has on my mental health, and so through isolation I have really tried to make sure I have been doing things that positively impact my mental health while I am still resting, like meditation.
